On 19 April 2023, Ari and Gabbi Mitchell’s precious baby girl, Stevie Dylan, was born sleeping at 37.5 weeks. Their world was forever changed. While surrounded by support, they saw first-hand how isolating the experience can be. Ari and Gabbi created Stevie’s Swim to honour Stevie and open the conversation around stillbirth, grief, and loss. In September 2023, Ari swam 200km (surpassing his initial goal of 126km) in pools and oceans around Sydney for #SteviesSwim. The funds raised through this initiative have gone directly to creating the AJFN Miscarriage and Loss program ensuring that no Jewish Australian is ever alone through their miscarriage or pregnancy loss journey. Stevie’s legacy will always be remembered and honoured through these initiatives.
