  • Does AJFN assist with the genetic screening of embyros?

    It is best to contact our Support Team to explain your unique situation. All information will be kept entirely confidential.

  • Does AJFN provide grants towards fertility preservation?

    The AJFN can support a range of medically required treatments that relate to fertility preservation. Please contact our Support Team to find out whether your treatment is within our scope.

  • Is IVF allowed halachically?

    As always with Halachic issues, it is important to speak to your own Rabbi or rabbinical authority for guidance. If you would like us to connect you with a Rabbi that suits you and your beliefs, we can do this for you.

  • I have never visited a mikvah, can AJFN help me find a mikvah?

    Absolutely, we will help you find a Mikvah and can offer to connect you with attendants and rebbetzins if you would like us to. We can help facilitate the process and be involved as much or as little as you want.

  • Can AJFN assist with with Kosher IVF (IVF with supervision)?

    Yes, AJFN can help facilitate Kosher IVF for you. We have connected with the Beth Din and several attendants to help make the process as seamless and comfortable as possible for you.

  • What is Kosher IVF (IVF with supervision)?

    Kosher IVF refers to procedures carried out in compliance with Jewish law.

  • What other support (aside from financial grants) does AJFN provide?

    AJFN’s mission and vision is to ensure that no Jewish Australian feels alone on their fertility journey. No two fertility journeys are the same and support is always tailored to each family’s needs. AJFN provides emotional, educational and spiritual support. AJFN has dedicated Support Managers on staff and trained Peer Support Companions who offer support at every stage of your fertility journey.

  • Do you provide grants for more than one cycle of IVF treatment?

    AJFN understands that most people can require several cycles before they fall pregnant. Yes, eligible families can receive up to $15,000 in financial grants over a 12 month period.

  • Do I have to pay back the grant?

    AJFN financial grants do not need to be paid back. AJFN is committed to ensuring that the financial burden associated with the high cost of fertility treatment is not prohibitive to any eligible Jewish Australian starting or continuing fertility treatment. AJFN is powered by the community, for the community. We appreciate any donations from families who may, in the future, be in a position to contribute. Your generosity pays it forward, extending support to others in need.

  • How do I know if I am eligible for a financial grant and how do I apply?

    Once you reach out to the AJFN Support Team they will guide you through the financial grant application process and eligibility criteria.

Donations

  • Who and what will my donation go to?

    Your kind donation will support Jewish Australians on their fertility journey, ensuring they are not alone as they navigate an emotional and financially challenging time in their life. AJFN donations will assist us with providing means-tested grants to help families with the high cost of fertility treatments. Your donation will also assist us to provide emotional, spiritual and educational support to these families. This may include Shabbat meals, care packs or professional counselling.

  • Are donations tax deductible?

    Yes, all donations over $2 to AJFN within Australia are tax deductible.

Fertility

  • What is ART (Artifical Reproductive Technology)?

    ART refers to an array of medical treatments and procedures that assist with conception and a succesful pregnancy. The most commonly known procedure is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) but there are many more. You can read more about ART in our Fertility Zone.

  • I am trying to fall pregnant, when should I seek professional help?

    Infertility is the inability to achieve conception or carry pregnanices to a live birth. For those aged 35 years and under, the recommendation is to seek professional advice after twelve months of trying to conceive naturally. For those aged over 35 years, the recommendation is to seek advice after six months of trying to conceive naturally. If you have any concerns regarding your reproductive health, then we would encourage you to seek the support of your GP or obstetrician as a first step.

  • We want to expand our family but are experiencing ‘Secondary Infertility’. Are we eligible to receive support from the AJFN?

    Yes, the AJFN is here to support any one in our community wanting to build their family but are experiencing infertility. Secondary Infertility is a term used to identify infertility in those who have one or more children but are now having difficulty conceiving. Secondary infertility is more common than we think and the AJFN is here to support you.

  • Financial support

    AJFN envisions a world where finance is never a barrier to the dreams of becoming a parent. We offer means-tested grants that pay up to 60% of the out-of-pocket expenses of fertility treatments, genetic testing of embryos, and counselling sessions related to the fertility journey.

    Anyone who has ever experienced infertility can attest to the overwhelming anxiety, often suffering in silence and isolation. Our emotional support offerings ensure you are not alone in your journey.

    We are here to provide all Jewish Australians with appropriate spiritual guidance. Whether arranging a meaningful challah baking for fertility, connecting you with someone for halachic advice, visiting the Mikvah for fertility, or IVF with supervision.
